About the final project for: Illustrating the Natural World with Watercolor and Charcoal

Illustrating the Natural World with Watercolor and Charcoal

“Congratulations! You have reached the end of this Domestika course. Thank you so much for taking part and I hope you've enjoyed it. It's now time to work on your project. This could mean finishing the illustration you started by completing the course tasks or making a brand new project! Either way, I strongly suggest you take the time to gather inspiration and make a unique project of your own. Make sure to keep track of your progress with different pictures of each step. It'd be great if you could also explain the choices you've made along the way and tell us if you have any doubts. This will help me guide you better if you need advice. Here are the main steps to follow: The Motif Choose the pollinators, flowers, grasses and backdrop that you wish to paint. Gather reference photos related to your choice. Practice Exercises Practise drawing and painting them individually until you are happy with your exercise pieces. The Composition Draw out a composition for your final illustration and mask out any areas that you want to keep white.

The Background Apply your background wash in layers as demonstrated in the unit 'Painting the Meadow Landscape'.
The Final Layers Once dry, remove your masking fluid and add colour to your pollinators and flowers. Finish off with glazes, splashes, and dry brush work to add texture, depth, and interest to the piece.
And that's all! I can't wait to see the project you come up with, so don't forget to share it in the forum. You can do so by clicking on 'Create your project'. I will be more than happy to answer any of the questions you might have along the way! I will try to get back to you as soon as possible. In the meantime, participate in the forum, comment on others' work, and interact with the community! If you share your work on Instagram too, don't forget to tag my account, Domestika's, and also to add the hashtag #SarahStokesDomestika. That way, I can find your posts much more easily! See you in the forum. ”

“ Final Project We have reached the end of the course. I hope that you've been able to create your own meadow scene in watercolour. Be creative and original when you're making your final project. I want to see all of the steps of your creative process. On the course, you got to paint different flowers, but I'd love to see you paint flowers that are special to you. Then I'd love you to explore different pollinators that you'd like to bring to life on paper. After that, it's up to you to decide what composition you'd like to choose for your final project. Roughly, then draw out your compositi...”
