About the final project for: Retro Hand-Lettering: Embracing Imperfections

Retro Hand-Lettering: Embracing Imperfections

“You have reached the end of this course. Congratulations on making it through! Before starting your project, learn the 4 step hand lettering process and practice on supplied warm-up worksheets. Now it's your time to start creating; I encourage you to use the method I taught you. Let me show an example of what I would like to see in your project: The Mood Board Choose a subject that you have a passion for. I chose music and retro technology, but it could be a love for animals or travel for you. Once you've decided on the subject, look for inspiration and create your mood board.

The Wireframes When first starting out, it can be tempting to immediately dive into creating the prettier final stage of your artwork. However, I highly recommend you start by making the wireframe. Think of it as a skeleton that will provide a backbone in future steps. Avoid stressing about clean linework at this point.
The Sketches First, make a rough sketch of the thickness of each letterform. Besides, establish the letter styling you will be using. Once you have your rough sketch in a good spot it’s time to refine the lettering in preparation for the final steps.
Your Artwork! Now it’s time to bring the sketch to life with color. Use a pen or marker to ink the artwork by tracing over your refined sketch. Then, apply texture and offset styling to push your hand-lettered artwork even further.
Don’t overthink your artwork—dive right in! We’re here to have fun and embrace imperfections. These errors and crooked lines will make your artwork more interesting. Once your project it's done, share it by clicking on 'Create your project'. Remember to share both the final result and the steps that have led you to it. Keep in mind, that sharing artwork can be one of the most fulfilling things we do as artists, and it’s also a great way to grow. If you decide to post it also on Instagram don't forget to tag @Domestika and @JayRoeder along with hashtags like #HandLettering and #Lettering. I'll also be at the forum to answer your questions and give you feedback as soon as possible. See you soon!”

“Final Project Congratulations on making it through the course. Together, we've covered a lot of ground. As you move forward, please use the four-step process that we worked through. Create artwork that's different and unique based on what inspires you. For me, it's music and retro technology, but for you it could be travel, sports or even a pet. Always let your personality come through in your artwork. True passion is contagious and genuine art is always more inspiring. Be sure to make lots of mistakes and embrace all those imperfections. Sharing artwork and being open to constructive feedb...”
