“ Traditional Inks: Technique Here is a character design I did for the graphic novel "Messenger: The Legend of Joan of Arc." I'll work on it for our first practical class on inking. But before I do, let's do some basic inking exercises, practising control of our instruments with straight lines and circles. A regular piece of paper will do. I have to repeat the movements from left to right, top to bottom, and vice versa. My tip here is not to look at your instrument but look at the point on the paper towards where you want to go. Left to right. Right to left. Top to bottom. And bottom to top...”

Sam Hart is an Anglo-Brazilian comic book artist based in São Paulo. He fell in love with comic books at a young age and has been reading, drawing, and writing them ever since. He has drawn stories featuring characters such as Robin Hood and The Power Rangers and had one of the graphics novels he illustrated adapted into a film starring Oscar-winning actress Charlize Theron.
Aside from creating comic books of his own, Sam regularly teaches illustration and comic book art and is passionate about helping others create their own realities through visual narratives.
