About the video: Exploring Spatial Possibilities

Overview

“When architecture embraces a circular economy, we need to rent structural elements, reuse components, and pre-negotiate donations of specific items as part of our starting designers’ tasks. Embracing a circular economy requires a new approach to all levels of architectural practice, including the spatial definition. A lot of architectural designs start from the definition of a geometrical volume. I am teaching in several architectural schools and yet many students start their process like this. In this lesson, I will teach you how to start creating a space with well-defined components. We will alter the standard design process from drawing from scratch to starting with a fully detailed set of objects to combine. I will show you the advantages of this process of combination and addition, in particular: an open-ended spatial result and a certain budget modularity. I will also advise you on the use of digital render and physical models with their own distinctive character as a way to anticipate spatial results, each one providing different advantages.”

In this video lesson Izaskun Chinchilla Moreno addresses the topic: Exploring Spatial Possibilities, which is part of the Domestika online course: Eco-Friendly Pop-up Architecture. Learn to design small scale installations from scratch by exploring the principles of circular economy.

Many architects and designers start thinking about their projects by looking at the space, and sometimes the shape, form, and geometry. When working with recycled materials, the starting point of the design should be slightly different. As I have previously taught you, when you work with pre-established materials, you h...”
