About the final project for: Artistic Illustration: From Drawing to Digital
Artistic Illustration: From Drawing to Digital
“For your final project, I want you to do a cover illustration for your favourite music album (or just one that you really like). If you want to use the techniques I have shown you in this course, then by all means go for it! I recommend you don’t feel limited by them, though. It’s experimentation that lies at the heart of my technique, and you may find textures and materials that you prefer over the ones I use if you experiment for yourself. The most important thing is that you find materials that you enjoy working with. I recommend you take the square format as a starting point, given that we are making cover art for a record. If you find a composition you like that deviates from it, imagine that your art director gave you free rein and promised that the designer would adapt to any format. Feel free to upload examples from any stage of the process, from thumbnail to final. I also want to encourage you to comment on each others’ projects constructively. Discussing artwork is one of the most valuable learning vehicles. Do not despair if you don’t hear from me immediately. I might be caught up in my studio working on a project or could be on extended adventures with my children. I will respond, I promise.

We then looked at the materials that I like to use and how you can use them to great effect. Next, we looked at the thumbnailing process and how to use tracing paper ...”
