I was working with a singer and I wanted to produce the track in a way that sounded humble and intimate and folkloric, somehow homely. I didn't need to have a grand recording in a beautiful studio with great musicians. That would kill it. Musicians sometimes are so good at what they do it becomes perfect, and it can go bland sometimes. Sometimes that's exactly what you need and sometimes you need to avoid that.
