About the final project for: Music Production for Films
Music Production for Films
“Congratulations! You have reached the end of my course. I hope you found it useful. Let's now recap what we have gone over: • What we need technically to work in music to picture. • Some concepts about musical statements and how they evolve over time. • The variety of ways music is applied in film and storytelling. • How to set yourself up technically in this industry. • Some general tips on writing music to picture. We also looked at spotting sessions and ways to get in sync with a director, to get inside their film. You learned how to develop your own story concepts, how to approach translating these into music and how to apply them to scenes. I gave you a few tips on how to work and collaborate successfully with a director. Finally, we covered how to deliver your music for mixing and what legal and professional details to keep on top of. As we have seen, there is a lot that goes into scoring a film, and remember there are many many great resources out there to get you going. I’ve learned tonnes while researching and writing this course. I hope I managed to give some helpful tips and tricks from my own particular perspective and background as a musician. There are many ways to climb this mountain and Im going up a particular slope... When tackling your projects, remember that the key is to never stop thinking about the story. Try to keep it simple and to create your music in a flexible way while at the same time aiming at doing things differently. Be bold and embrace your own unique heritage as a musician. A story can be told many ways, and different music just makes a different film. It's a question of taste. Follow your instincts! Do upload your work and I look forward to seeing what you come up with, either on Olivia or any other project you are working on. If you have any questions, just go to the forums and I’ll be in there as often as my schedule permits, to see how I can help. I’d love to see you all commenting and helping each other out too. It’s sometimes a solitary business and community matters. Most importantly, I encourage you to continue, to just try stuff out, and keep collaborating. Own your own music and your own style. There is no one style of film music - it’s so much more than orchestras - it's constantly evolving, anything can happen, and it's all about forging creative relationships to tell compelling stories and move people. Save your music in stems! you’ll thank me one day for that one. ”

“Final Project We've reached the end of this Domestika course. I hope that through exploring key musical and filmmaking concepts and going through "Olivia" with me, you've realised how wide open the creative possibilities are. Storytelling at this abstract, emotional level is endlessly fascinating, rewarding and challenging, so go and see what happens when you apply your music to any other audiovisual project or film. Through trying different ideas to the picture or any picture you'll discover a whole new aspect to your music making. Hopefully the concepts I've outlined will have deepened yo...”
