“Dear students, We have reached the end of the course and you may have a new vision of urban sketching with a variety of inspirations, motives, and techniques. In this Domestika course, I showed you what my process is: drawing with line and painting with a reduced watercolor palette. You are now familiar with a new approach to perspective, the curvilinear perspective. Carry your sketching gear everywhere you go, ready to catch scenes and people to draw from direct observation and to tell stories in your sketchbook. I also encourage you to meet your local community of sketchers to be more confident in drawing outdoor and also to learn from others. Your final project will be a sketchbook full of portraits, urban scenes, familiar objects, and a 180º panorama of a city landscape, including the soundtrack, description, and storytelling. You will capture the essence of your everyday-life, inspired by your surrounding, friends, and family to sketch some personal stories. I will do my best to review your projects and to give you some personal feedback as soon as I can, but please be patient, I might travel or work for commissions, so it might take longer than expected. I also encourage you to share tips and opinions to enrich our course experience. I can't wait to discover what you've done during the course! And don't forget that sketching is more about enjoying the process than creating a "nice" drawing. You will improve very quickly with regular practice. Let's sketch!”

Lapin is an urban sketcher based in Barcelona, Spain. As a young boy, he remembers accompanying his father—an airplane technician—to his workplace to draw planes and imagine their stories. His three passions remain the same to this day: aviation, paleontology, and drawing.
In 18 years, he has filled over 200 sketchbooks, published 30 books, and was named the official air and space painter for the French Army in 2019. He’s a member of the Urban Sketching Community since 2008 and teaches Illustration Masters students at Elisava in Barcelona, as well as his own urban sketching workshops.
