“Influences In this lesson, I'll tell you about some of the people who inspire me. First, I'll tell you about Gustav Klimt. He's an Austrian modernist painter from the late 19th century and the early 20th. I love the work he did with female portraits and the gazes he achieved. Sometimes they're playful, joyful ones. Sometimes there's a hint of nostalgia. The way he did the color of the cheeks, and especially what he did with gold as a color, which is an esthetic approach that breaks away from his portrait colors, puts them in contrast, and makes it almost treasure-like.
