About the final project for: Watercolor Portrait from a Photo

Watercolor portrait

“We have already reached the end of this course, during which we review some references, talk about the materials, and start the project choosing a photograph and transferring it as a sketch to paper. I also taught you how to make the colors that I usually use in my palette, and we began to apply layer after layer the watercolor always with the dry technique. We especially stopped at the eyes, which are the elements of the face that transmit the most emotion, and then we continued with nose, mouth, ears, neck and contour. We also took special care in drawing the hair before applying watercolor, since it is a simpler way that gets a very interesting result. Finally we paint the clothes with black tempera, and we touch up some details, and then talk about the framing of the work. Now I invite you to make your own portrait. Don't forget to prepare your palette and your workspace before starting; Let the watercolor dry between layers, resize the brush as necessary. It is also good to get away from your watercolor from time to time, to see it in perspective; and, most importantly, breathe and have fun! Remember that you can leave your questions and progress in the course forum, and I will answer you as soon as I can. So now get to work! See you!”

I introduced myself. I told you about my being self-taught with watercolor and I showed you some pieces. I shared some of the artists that inspired me. Then I talked about the project we'd do in this course, a watercolor portrait based on a photograph. ...”
