Love flower crafts? Learn how to identify flowers you can buy, grow, or forage for your creative projects
Crafting art using dried flowers is a great way to bring nature and beauty into your home. Renowned embroidery artist Olga Prinku (@oprinku), practices the delicate art of weaving dried plants and flowers onto fabric, also known as flowers-on-tulle embroidery.
Her natural creations have been featured in Martha Stewart’s publications, among others, and in fashion collections like Swarovski.
For Olga, floral tulle embroidery is a craft for those who want to slow down, observe the beauty and fragility of nature, and find a sense of calm and inner peace in doing so.
As she explains, working with flowers requires delicacy, patience, and the “right frame of mind.” It’s a slow process as each element is fragile but, in time, her creations bloom. In her course, she teaches you her methodologies and how to create beautiful handmade pieces using organic materials.
Drawing inspiration from her natural surroundings in the North of England, Olga forages and dries the majority of flowers she uses for her projects herself.
Whether it’s the shape of a seed head or the color of a flower, the landscape around her or a passing owl, nature is Olga’s thread and she looks for beauty wherever she can. As she puts it, “even weeds can be beautiful.” But, as she also explains, care must be taken when foraging for proper plant identification as some plants might be dangerous.
