Tips to help you create your bullet journal to-do list

1. Plan every day

Little Hannah recommends creating tomorrow’s to-do list every evening. This will help you work out how much you have and schedule the right amount of space/time for each job in your bullet journal.

2. Choose your illustrations and images

Select a good range of colors to make your work visually coherent. Remember that bigger photos or drawings need to “preside” over everything, as this will create harmony.

Generally speaking, the dominant image should occupy the top left hand corner. Once you have stuck in your image or drawn your own design, use a diagonal structure to space out the areas reserved for text.

3. Use stamps and souvenirs

Allow your imagination to flow as you decorate your pages. Use specific images that suit the task or memories of a particular day. Rubber stamps are great too.

Our expert recommends pressing the ink pad onto the stamp, rather than the other way around, to make sure only the raised parts are covered in ink.

You can also create frames around your photos and illustrations with ballpoint pens. Everything helps achieve a more harmonious, lovelier finish.

4. Fit everything around the days of the week, according to the time required for each task

You know what you need to achieve each day because you did the planning in step 1. So now all you have to do is arrange the text around your images.

You can add motivational phrases, thoughts or anything that inspires you, plus any dates or appointments.

If you need extra space for a particular day, for example if an unexpected piece of work comes up, you can create a kind of triptych by sticking an extra piece of paper to the edge of the page and folding it back inside your journal to keep all the information about a particular task under the right day.
