8 Projects to Commemorate the 8M
We compile 8 projects of Domestika's teachers and students to commemorate International Women's Day
Women's Day has become a great source of inspiration for many artists and women in general. Every March 8, the streets around the world are filled with women demonstrating for their rights and every year we come across new and creative posters that motivate us in the struggle and convey a great sorority.
To commemorate this important day, we wanted to gather here 8 projects made by teachers and students of Domestika that express, each in their own way, the feminist struggle.
Sofía Castellanos is a Mexican artist and muralist, as well as Domestika teacher. On the occasion of the celebration of 8M in 2022, Sephora commissioned her to make an illustration and this is the result, a beautiful combination of colors in which she sneaks, in addition, to an element that she loves, a butterfly, a symbol of freedom.
Natalia Spadaro, better known by everyone as Estrellita Caracol, is an Argentine artist who mixes drawing and collage in her works. In this project, she wanted to commemorate 8M by applying these techniques and showing us women of different races united with the same goal, the fight for equality. If you like Estrellita Caracol's style, take a look at her courses.
Under the title Mujer Poderosa (Powerful Woman), graphic designer María Isabel Díez created this beautiful digital illustration, which emulates a plasticine doll surrounded by leaves and flowers. In it, she mixes the typical purple of 8M with green, creating a beautiful contrast.
Under the slogan "Women's Rights are Human Rights", this artist and visual illustrator presents a series of images featuring women and direct messages, such as "8M" or "Free Women". In addition, she gives them a special (and somewhat disco) touch by turning them into GIFs.
One of the ways to demonstrate during 8M is through social networks. Therefore, the designer Ana Moreno (lettering.iam in social media) proposes a series of stickers with vindicative messages and striking designs to accompany the stories uploaded on Instagram and Facebook.
One of the messages proclaimed in the feminist struggle in general and in the 8M, in particular, is the strength of the union of women. The work of the illustrator and print designer in this project that we have rescued reflects that female joint struggle, with messages such as "I am with her" or "No" does not mean convince me".
It doesn't matter the color, the religion, the shape of our body... The important thing is that we are united in this fight. This is reflected in this project by Catalina Vasquez, a Colombian illustrator who shares all her knowledge about animated illustration in this Domestika course in which you will learn how to animate frame to frame.
This author names her work Valentina, but in reality, she represents all women who stand up and fight every day to make the world we live in a little better. Injustice, inequality... These are some of the obstacles we have to face. It's not easy and we know it, but if we all join Valentina it's possible to change it, "I'm sure!", she says.
