Transforming a room from cold and lifeless to warm and cozy may seem overwhelming, but actually it’s simply a matter of adding a few simple details here and there.

Eva Sonaike is the creative director and founder of her self-named London based interiors company. The company specializes in luxury home textiles and soft furnishings with colorful African designs, with her products appearing in luxury stores such as Liberty and Selfridges.

How to make your bedroom cozy

1. Main furniture pieces

Break up the visual information in the room if you have lots of colors and patterns by making sure your bed has a headboard. A freestanding bedside table will also give your room a sense of airiness and space, or bedside tables with storage are always a useful option. It’s also possible to buy bedside lamps with multiple light settings, so that can fill your room with a cozy, warm glow. Finally, a dressing table is also a great addition to any room.

2. Soft furnishings

Bed throws, rugs, and curtains can make a huge difference to your room. Choose anything from intricate patterns to simple linens, as long as their style is in-keeping with your bedroom’s overall look. Pay special attention to bedcovers, which can make or break your room. You can add seasonality to your room by changing up your bed throws, from fake furs in the winter, to patterned linens in the summer.

3. Wall color

Eva has three colors she believes work well in any room: butter yellow, pastel green, and powdery lilac. Calmer colors reflect the tranquil nature of the bedroom. If you are looking for a refreshing, energizing feel, yellow is a good bet. Green is the color of hope and positivity, and adds an air of sophistication. And lilac will give your bedroom a feeling of elegance and luxury.

4. Cultural influences

Add a cultural twist to your room. If you like to travel, you undoubtedly have trinkets, wall art, or some soft furnishings you’ve picked up on the way. Display small bits of memorabilia on your dressing table, or bigger pieces as wall art.
