About the final project for: Botanical Watercolor Sketchbook
Illustration of a naturalist diary
“In this course I have shared one of my favorite ways to practice and experiment with styles and techniques of illustration on a daily basis. I found this habit as a means of improving my emotional connection with nature, in addition to having a broader sense of how individual parts fit into a set. I invite you to also awaken your desire for exploration, including thoughts, feelings and observations on paper, without fear that this is a final artistic work. For example, you can keep an illustrated record of the progress of your garden, explorations on your trips to nearby or distant places, your immediate emotional responses to the beauty of the natural world, the important thing is that you open your senses. In addition this will help you create a habit of constant, portable drawing and will help you build confidence with the technique. Don't just mix only the materials that I have suggested. Finally, your diary will be a log not only of the species you will draw but also of your evolution as an illustrator. Share your natural discoveries in the forum and feel free to comment on the work of other colleagues, this will be very enriching for everyone. I want to know the nature that surrounds you and the way you document the world in which we live. Thanks for being here! P.M”

Then I showed you the materials that we would use, from the most basic to some optional ones. I showed you how to mix colors and apply them to a color chart. This will be very useful to see what options you have. We did an exercise to identify and create your own color palettes, drawing inspiration from different images. Ne...”

A course by Paulina Maciel · Canela
Paulina Maciel's first encounter with watercolor was at university while she was studying design. It wasn't until a few years later that she decided to deepen her knowledge and explore nature through this technique with professional training at a watercolor academy. Her first commission was a wedding invitation for some friends and since then, there have been many more, although not always related to wedding stationery. Her training in design has given an extra boost to her illustrations, enabling her to apply them in all kinds of projects.
