The first way I'll show you how to do a gradient is by a more controlled method with less water. Choose one colour, and I'll choose blue. Get a lot of pigment onto your brush and a bit of water, not too much, and make a marking. If you want to take off the majority of that paint, add a bit of paint, not too much, and more water.
