“ Values and Layering In this lesson, we'll go over some basic watercolour techniques, starting with values and layering. We'll start with values. Values are how dark or light a colour can be. They can also be used to determine what's in the foreground and background, and also how light and dark something is. It can also create a sense of depth in your piece. It's incredibly important. To start with, I'll choose one colour and make the value scale from that. With my watercolours, I'll get a grey tone and I'll put as much paint on the paintbrush as possible.
