About the final project for: Botanical Illustration: From Notebook to Print

Botanical Illustration: From Notebook to Print

“ Before we say goodbye, let's review the key phases of the project. It would be great if you briefly explain what you have done in each one and accompany the explanation with one or more images. Choice and dissection First of all, choose what you are going to draw. Once you have chosen your species, dissect it and look at all the details that you could capture in your notebook.

Pencil sketch Then it's time to sketch in pencil the different elements of your illustration. Observe the outline and the relationship that exists between the different parts of the piece. Do not rush, at first the line must be faint. As you add lines, you will shape the drawing.
Inked Next, it's time to ink your drawings using the crosshatching technique with the marker. If you have any doubts with the tone, take a photograph and convert it to black and white, to help you understand the tonal contrast.
Digitization and coloring After inking, photograph all your drawings to import them into Procreate. With all the elements within this software, add color as we have seen in Unit 4.
Final adjustments Finally, create a frame for your print and add the final details to finish it off. You got it!
Now share your final project with all of us by clicking on "Create your project". Remember to share both the final result of your illustration and the steps that have led you to it. I am looking forward to seeing your project and giving you feedback. Although I ask for your patience, I will try to access the forum as much as I can and what my professional projects allow me. Finally, I want to invite you to actively participate in the forum, not only sharing your progress, but also giving advice and trying to help the rest of the community. Botanical illustration is, above all, a living process, nourished by popular wisdom. See you on the forum!”

I’m sure that with the tips I gave you, you’ll be able to create your own botanical poster. Give it a shot; just take the first step. Remember that everyday objects and your environment can be your source of inspiration. Going forward, I’d love for you to be more aware of the details that surround you in nature. Once you’ve chosen your species, dissect it, and focus on all the info you can represent in your sketchbook. Start by doing your first pencil sketch. Observe th...”
