Pyrography 101: Woodburning Illustration Techniques

“Congratulations! You have reached the end of this Domestika course. I hope you've enjoyed exploring the world of woodburning illustration. Thank you so much for joining me in this course; it’s been an honor to share my techniques with you. Now, before we end, I’d like to remind you of some of the most important steps we gave throughout the course and that you should remember when you start doing your project: Selecting the Design Choose the design that you want to burn on wood.

Starting to Sketch Sketch out your design using different references you have compiled, either digitally or with paper.
Transferring the Design Transfer your design onto your wood piece using a carbon transfer sheet or sketching out the design onto the wood with a pencil.
Working on the Linework and Details Go ahead with your linework, starting with the larger main lines and then working down into the details.
Adding Texture and Shadows Lastly, add shading and texture and fill in the rest of your design to give it depth. Spray your design with finishing spray to seal and finish your piece.
Publish Your Work on Social Media After sharing your work with the Domestika community, if you want, you can also share it on your social media using the hashtag #AshlynRudolphDomestika. Feel free and confident to show your work to the world!
And that's all! Thank you so much for taking part. I can't wait to see your woodburning project! You can share your project with us by clicking on "Create your project." Remember to share both the final result and the steps that have led you to it. It would be great if you showed a picture of each step and added a brief explanation about what you have done in each one. I will try my best to engage with the forum as much as possible. If you have any questions, be sure to ask them! I will reply as soon as I can, but in the meantime, I encourage you to interact with each other. Communication fuels creativity. So, don't be afraid to reach out and collaborate with others. But most of all, have fun! See you in the forum! ”

“Final Project You've made it to the end of the course. I'm so proud of you. Thank you for considering taking these lessons. I'm so excited to have you as a part of this woodburning community now. Let's review what we've done in this course. First, you chose a design for your final project. Next, we sketched a design using all of the different references and inspirations we compiled together, either digitally or traditionally. We transferred our sketch onto wood using a carbon transfer paper method or sketching it directly onto the plaque. We started with our linework, starting with the majo...”
