A course by Andrés Kal , Visual Artist and Painter
About the video: How to say goodbye to your reference
Overview
“Now let's forget about the reference for a moment. We will put our intuition and unconscious in motion, deconstructing the structure achieved so far, searching, between chance and accident, for texture and abstraction. We will do this by covering or adding, and revealing parts of the image. We have to embrace the error as an ally and learn to let go, taking advantage of what we call "artistic license".”
In this video lesson Andrés Kal addresses the topic: How to say goodbye to your reference, which is part of the Domestika online course: Experimental Oil Painting Techniques for Portraiture. Learn to use unconventional tools and methods to compose expressive portraits from a reference photo and transform them with colorful strokes.

“How to Say Goodbye to Your Reference In this lesson, I’ll show you how I develop the painting in a freer way without needing to look at the reference. The creative process is dynamic. On the way to the studio, I found a box with a sign that said "fragile," and I thought it would be interesting to add it to the image I was working on for this "welcome to the jungle" part. So I've already traced out that sign on a piece of tracing paper, and I'll transfer it to the image....”
