“Tonal Values Let's take a look at this in images here. This is a painting by Justin Mortimer, a British painter that I was lucky enough to visit at his studio in London. This particular painting is a high-key one. Normally, his paintings are much more low-key. They're much darker, more in the low-key range, but this is a good example of a high-key image where the dominant is a tonal value of eight or seven more or less, and we see some these dark accents, too. I pixelated the image on purpose here to make it more schematic, more abstract, and visualize what I'm talking about by grouping it ...”
