About the final project for: Introduction to CMF Design: Color, Material, and Finish

Introduction to CMF Design: Color, Material, and Finish

“Congratulations, you have reached the end of this course. Thank you for joining me in this adventure. I hope this course has helped you to understand better colour to create unique product design. Find your unique inspiration and make your own final project. Let me show you an example of how I would like to see your project: First Steps Choose a small product you want to design for, keep it to a small wearable item or a home or technology device. Consider the materials, textures and colours already in place.

The Research Gather visual research from art, design, fashion, materials and colour. Look for further inspiration by gathering interesting found references and physical samples of colours and materials. Also, conduct consumer research questionnaires and market research to gather insights on where, how and why the product is used and how CMF could improve the experience.
Mood Board Build a mood board and a visual theme that shows a clear inspirational mood for Colour, Material and Finish. Create a colour palette of 4-6 colours and gather and group-specific textures or materials that also fit the look and feel.
The Product Lastly, think about the product and the visual approach you can take to colour and materials based on your research and create 2-3 CMF combinations or groupings to apply to your final project and product.
I want to ask you not to be afraid when you start working on your final project, instead get creative, let your imagination take the lead. Be playful with colours, materials and texture, feel free to explore! Don’t worry about perfection, the important thing is to start. Take your time to choose the right product, don’t limit yourself to the common things, go further. You can select any product you like. Share your final project! You have worked too hard on it, let the world see your work. I will be giving you feedback as soon as I can, but please be patient. Meanwhile, use Domestika’s forum to share experiences, knowledge and feedback with your classmates. I’m looking forward to seeing your final project! See you soon!”
