About the final project for: Classical Portrait Drawing: The Renaissance Man’s Method

Draw with Leonardo: The Reinassance Drawing

“Welcome to the "Final Project" section and thank you so much for taking this course with me. I hope that you enjoyed all our classes as much as I did! I am now going to show you how to share each step of your final project with the whole community. First of all, you need to choose carefully your reference photo. You must like it, but remember that you can still make changes using your imagination.

Now, prepare your paper! Working on a toned surface helps give that classical twist to a portrait. Make sure that you also have the right materials within arm's reach.
Start your work by drawing your gesture and construction lines first. This way, you get a much more spontaneous image that feels real. Make sure your lines are light, so you can adjust them. Always start blocking-in using light values representing the dark areas.
Add details and main features only when the main planes of the head are in the right place. Work on your dark areas first and light areas later, most of the mid-tones are your toned paper. Add your white touches at the very end.
Check your work with a final revision so that all your features are aligned and proportioned, your values are right and there is a good level of detail where you want to focus the viewer's attention.
Finally, take a picture of your final project to share it with the world!
... And that's it! I am so excited to see your portrait! I’ll be sure to let you know my thoughts when I can, though please remember that I’m often busy with ongoing projects. Don't forget to comment on other people's work on the forum and give constructive feedback to help them improve. Thank you so much again for taking the time to come on this course with me!”
