About the final project for: Mixing Music with Pro Tools

Song Mix in ProTools

“Thank you for accompanying me throughout this process. It has been a pleasure for me and I have also learned a lot by explaining everything I do. In the world of music mixing we never stop learning and researching to reach new emotions using only our ears. You can't get bored with so many buttons and lights to tap! Enjoy what you do because that is transmitted in the sound you make. Before saying goodbye, I want to give you some recommendations: • When setting up your session, use track colors, placement, and editing. Everything will help your process to be more creative and less technical when it comes to feeling. • Have a good collection of templates for the different styles you usually work with. Do not stop renewing it and take those tricks that you liked the most from each mix and include them in your "template" so that in the next one, that will inspire you again. • The music mix is the interrelation of all the instruments in the arrangement. It is useless to have a guitar that in itself sounds incredible if later in the arrangement it does not coexist well with the other elements. Work on the sounds as closely related to the rest as possible. • Rest every hour and a half of intense work to refresh your ears. Listen to references, records that inspire you while you take a break and call a friend to chat and exchange opinions about what you are doing. When you return to your mix you will have a much clearer view of what you like and what you don't like about your mix. • The song is part of the repertoire of an artist or group and they are the ones who have to defend it for the rest of their career. Don't let your ego get over his. Nothing should be left in the mix that they don't feel is theirs. Negotiate with skill and empathy and reach common ground. • Enjoy every second that you mix music because you are going to transmit that in your sound. Now we are going to review the key phases of the project. It would be great if you could show me an image or an audio of each phase and add a brief explanation about what you have done in each one. When you share your final project by clicking on "Create your project" remember that the platform only allows you to upload images and text. To show us your progress in audio format, I recommend that you upload your files to a platform such as SoundCloud and share a link here, both of your final mix and of its evolution in the different phases. Preparation of the mixture Although during the process of recording the song I have been preparing some things for the mix, we must leave everything well prepared to work in the most comfortable and efficient way. Next, I have positioned the drums and other instruments so that they fit perfectly in relation to the click of the song.

Afterwards, I fine-tuned the vocals for the song using the Melodyne plug-in and added some drum samples using the technique known as "layering" to add power to the rhythmic base of the song.
Mix of instruments and voices With all the elements perfectly positioned, it's time to mix. Taking advantage of a "template" that I have been developing for a long time, I have mixed the drums. Then the rest of the instruments like bass, guitars and synthesizers. In Unit 3 you can follow this exciting process step by step and in detail. After the mixing of the instruments, it is the turn of the voices. Also in Unit 3 you can review how I have edited and adjusted all the parameters of different plugins to make the lead voice and backing vocals look their best.
Final mix and delivery Finally, I applied different plugins to the output buses and made the last adjustments to finish the mix and leave it ready for the mastering process. When you share your project, in this step, in addition to sharing your final finished mix, it would be great if you could also share the original demo of the song so we can see the difference and what you've learned. You got it!
Surely this has been the first mix of many to come. I invite you to listen to the mixes of your classmates and to ask the techniques and tricks that give you the most curiosity to be able to learn and share among all our different approaches to the wonderful world of getting excited with music. I will try to go to the forum as much as my work in the studio allows me, but I want to invite you to participate actively in the forum, both sharing your progress and giving advice and trying to help the rest of the community. It is sure to be very enriching for everyone! Greetings and lots of music! ”

“Final project We finished this Domestika course. I hope you enjoyed and that you have deepened in your knowledge of music mixing. Before I go I want to review with you some key points of the course. First, be patient, not everything will turn out the first time. You have to have perseverance with some processes that are more difficult to listen to, like compression. They are complicated processes that at first our ears are not quite ready to listen. You need a lot of experience, patience, perseverance and you need to be somewhat conservative so that they are the most colorless in the mixtur...”
