About the final project for: Introduction to Product Design

Introduction to product design

“I am very glad that you have completed the course! I know there is a lot of information to take in, but I hope you enjoyed it along the way. Also, remember that you can re-watch any lesson if you need to. Throughout the course I have shared with you our way of working. And although the techniques we have seen can be applied from different styles, it is very important that you discover your own. You already know that a good design must always be original. Now share your final project with all of us by clicking on "Create your project". Remember to share both the final result of your product and the steps that have led you to it. Sharing your work on the forum is a good way to publicize your work and receive my feedback and that of the Domestika creative community. Next, let's remember one by one the steps necessary to successfully complete your final project. It would be great if you showed an image of each step and added a brief explanation about what you have done in each one: Briefing and mood board Choose your briefing. You have three different ones to choose from: lighting, furniture or accessories. If you prefer, you can also create a self-briefing by following the steps we have seen. Once you have it, carry out a broad market study and an inspiration mood board for your design. The mood board, together with the briefing, will serve as a style guide throughout the project. We prepare 4 mood boards, one for each design proposal we made.

Sketches and plans You don't need to be an expert draftsman to be a great designer, let yourself go and draw your ideas until you find your design. Then give it proportions and reflect the measurements on a plane, since you will need measurements to take the next step: make models. I recommend that you work first on a reduced scale and then on a full scale. Here we share some sketches and one of the plans. If you can, share a photo of your mockup or mockups as well.
Materials and finishes: 3D model Once you have clear the final shape of your product, it is time to finish defining the materials and finishes. To preview materials, nothing is more useful than modeling your design in 3D and then using a rendering program.
Prototyping The next step in the design process is prototyping. Building a realistic prototype will help you validate your design and, if you are satisfied, move on to the last phase: publicize your project.
name, history and photos We have reached the end! You will finish the project by choosing a name for your product, writing a storytelling and taking some good photos. Thus, in addition to sharing them by sharing your project in the forum, they can be part of your portfolio or you can upload them to your social networks.
It is normal that doubts arise throughout the process of creating your product. For this, the forum can be very useful, since you will not only find answers from other members of the community, but you will also help to enrich it. And if you prefer to ask me directly, you can send me a message and I will try to answer you as soon as possible, although as you can imagine I am usually quite busy and sometimes it may take a little longer than I would like. Thank you very much for having accompanied me in this course. I am looking forward to seeing your project! ”
