I'd encourage you not to rush this step, it's worth it to spend time understanding the visual history and language of where these images come from. If you want to design a dress, you can look at dresses from the past or contemporary examples, but you can also look at more abstract examples. What if you look at architecture or a gardening landscape? How does that influence how you design a dress? I think it's valuable to look at both...”

Lisa Perrin is an illustrator, hand-lettering artist, and professor based in Baltimore, Maryland. She was born in New York and went to college there, achieving a BFA in Drawing and Painting. She later went on to study a Master’s in illustration at MICA where she now works full-time as a professor.
