About the final project for: Daily Sketching for Creative Inspiration

Daily Sketching for Creative Inspiration

“Thanks again for taking this course. We talked about some different approaches to sketching. If you want to build up your visual library, and your main objective is to improve technique, you may want to do more prompts focusing on doing sketches from direct observation approaching different subject matters. If you're more interested in documenting your daily life- use your sketches as a visual diary. Capture moments or scenes from your environment. Remember that there are multiple ways to interpret your environment. Feel free to adjust and re-shape what you see to introduce a narrative. Remember that you’re the artist. You have full control over what you decide to leave in and out of your sketches. Our final project for this course is a daily sketchbook over 30 days or a month. Whether you spend five minutes or an hour per day, what I want is for you to complete at least one sketch a day. If you’re feeling good and you want to do some more pages, feel free to keep going. There is no correct way to approach your daily sketches. Instead of sticking to a singular prompt, I want you to experiment take risks and visit different kinds of prompts. Use the tasks I laid out throughout the course as the testing ground of your skills. Also, take all the feedback you can get from me and the community and implement all that knowledge into your practice. One of the advantages of doing a time-based project is that you can assess the evolution of it. I am pretty sure that the sketches of day 1 will be different from those done on the last week of the challenge. Since I am asking you to work on this daily for a full month, you will gain a lot of insight into sketching as an art form. Please document all that when submitting your project. I am interested in both how your project turns out and the reasoning behind your decisions. You also may just want to spend your daily sketches on some doodles or sketches from your imagination. When you’re drawing from your imagination or just expressing yourself, there are no rules. You can draw whatever you want - and don’t put too much pressure on yourself to make perfect drawings! I am aware that each one has a unique approach to sketching. While I laid out a way around sketching in this course, showing you my method, I want you to be true to your intuition and gut feeling when working on your sketches. However, I feel about sharing with you some nice advice that you can use. First, when picking a set of sketchbooks, be very mindful of the type of paper, as well as its weight and size. As you are going to carry one around (be it for this course's project or as a part of your daily activities), you must select the one you are comfortable with. Also, do not be afraid of mixing different techniques and using a wide array of materials to experiment and accomplish your unique look. I could not state that enough, and it is also one of the joys of this form of expression. As you show throughout the course, ink is my preferred material, but I tried to place myself out of my comfort zone and dare to experiment with other types of materials. I encourage you to do the same.

Materials are of the utmost importance, but so is knowing your fundamentals. A good understanding of perspective and lightning shoud come as second nature. That is why I stress the importance of drawing from observation. While is great to do it from direct observation, you don't always have to. Keep that in mind when developing the sketch log. You can mix it up when it comes to realistic and imagination-driven sketches, which frees you up from being always attached to a reference and will allow you to maximize your creative skills, on top of helping you become a well-rounded artist.
Again, I encourage you to participate in the forum and engage in meaningful conversations with your fellow students. Of course, whenever you have a question, address it to me, and I will do my best to respond promptly. I hope this 30-day challenge is one of self-discovery and solidifies your love for sketching. Goodbye!”
