About the final project for: Creative Direction for Product Photography

Creative Direction for Product Photography

“Hello! We have finished our course. I hope you enjoyed it and put all the tools you learned into practice. Before starting your project, keep in mind that practice is essential when creating, do not feel frustrated if the photo does not turn out as you wanted in your first production. Photography and art direction are disciplines in which you gain knowledge and confidence as you practice more. Facing difficulties is part of the process! Now is the time to create your own final project. Here is an example of how I would like to see your entire process. The object The idea now is that you select an object and with the resources that I taught you to generate a universe for it, applying the creative direction. I started from a notebook, it seemed to me an easy element to get and that works to build a world from scratch. You can start from the element that you like the most! But I recommend starting with objects that are familiar to you, and with which you are in contact for some reason. It is always easier to build universes than we know it to be than to start from scratch.

Brainstorming Start your brainstorming to think about what possible world you can generate for that object. You can start with keywords as the first trigger. Once you have five to ten, it is time to make a first approximation to the color palette.
The color palette Select the color palette. To choose it, you can take as a starting point some of the harmonies that I taught you. Always keep in mind what feeling you want your image to give and with what color you relate the world of the chosen element.
The mood board Assemble your mood board. Put there the references that inspire you the most and that you relate to the keywords. This element should reflect the feeling you want to generate with your image.
The perfect props Get started searching for props. Start from what you see on your mood board and list all the objects that come to mind. If they are images, look on the internet, it is a great source of resources. If they are other types of elements, you can resort to markets, second-hand stores, your family and friends.
The shooting Plan and have your checklist at hand, so you avoid forgetting and wasting time in the study. When you are in the place chosen to take the photo, start to assemble the composition with your props on the background you chose. If you work with the overhead camera, it is important that the background does not enter into visual competition with the object you are going to photograph.
The composition Try making some sketches of your composition, when it is ready, place the light box. If you do not have equipment, it is best to do it with natural light, in the shade or with filtered window light. I measured the light, set the camera and took the photo.
From the selection to Instagram Review the material, choose the final image and make any adjustments you think necessary. Once everything is ready, you can post the image on Instagram.
Now it was time to share your final project with all of us. If, in addition to the Domestika community, you want to share your project with the world, you can upload photos to Instagram with the hashtag #JosefinaMogrovejoDomestika . I invite you to also give your opinion on the work of your colleagues, but above all, to interact. Remember that constructive opinions and comments always add up and make us grow as professionals. I hope you have added knowledge and have enjoyed the whole process that I taught you in the course. We will be crossing each other in the forum, where I can answer your questions and give you feedback on your final project. Thank you very much for getting here! See you soon! ”

“Final project We have already reached the end of the course. I hope you enjoyed it and put it into practice all the tools we learned. The idea is that now they can generate a visual universe to any object they choose to promote. I chose a notebook that seemed to me an easy object to obtain and that it worked to show them how to put together a universe from scratch. Once we choose the object, what we did was do a "brainstorming" and also work on keywords to give us an idea of the possible universes of that object. I think it is good to start with a simple object and that it is not complicate...”
