About the video: What Is Drawing?
Overview
“In this lesson, I will explain what drawing is and why we need to develop this skill as an artist. I will explain that drawing is actually just the craft of turning the real 3D world into a bidimensional illusion on paper or any other bidimensional medium. With this craft in hand, we can then choose if we want to represent reality or an imaginary version of it, called creation. I will also show that drawing is just one of several skills an artist has to master.”
In this video lesson Jean Fraisse addresses the topic: What Is Drawing?, which is part of the Domestika online course: Drawing 101: Introduction to Digital Illustration. Explore the foundations of illustration by learning the techniques to draw from observation and from your own imagination.

Jean Fraisse
A course by Jean Fraisse
Once he finished his studies in graphic design in Paris (France), and got rejected from renowned animation schools, Jean Fraisse decided to learn about illustration on his own and began applying it to his work for advertising agencies. It was then that he decided to get into freelance work and started working for major clients such as Marinela and Televisa.
In 2015, he got in touch with HuevoCartoon, a widely-recognized Mexican animation studio, where he worked as their Art Director and Production Designer for over five years.
Today, part of his time involves sharing his knowledge and showing others how he learned illustration and animation through a project called Canvas. In the last eight years, he has also taught classes in several schools and workshops.
