Isometric Map Illustration: Capture a City's Vibrancy
“Thanks for following the course and taking a look into my working process. I’d love for you to create a map of your chosen locations. A well-illustrated map takes time, so be prepared to put in the time and work. One of my maps often takes weeks for me to produce. The more time you put in, the more detailed the map will be, the more captivating the journey will be for the viewer. So please don’t be put off. The wonderful thing about maps is that it is a structure you can put your twist on. I draw places that exist, but this doesn’t have to be what you do. You could create your imaginary world. Be creative, and most of all, have fun and enjoy it. If you cherish the process, it always shows in your work. To complete this course, you should have finished the following steps. • Research into an area. • Plot the landmarks on google maps • Take the plotted image from google maps to Photoshop • Draw all the buildings roughly on an isometric grid and drop them onto the map • Draw the typographic elements of the map. • Fill the space within the map injecting your personality into the piece. • Draw the map neat. • Research and choose your printing process. • Get the map printed and take photos. • Showcase your pieces in shows and online, and start selling!
