About the final project for: Designing Products of the Future

Designing Products of the Future

“I hope by now you have had a chance to try the process from start to finish, filled the workbook and managed to sketch, design or even prototype your future artifact. A little recap of what we have done and the steps to follow before I go. First of all, I have introduced you to key aspects of Future Synthesizingin in order to better understand what it means to create for the Future(s). We then defined a starting point and a goal in order to map what the future might look like and what items will be needed. Once you have come up with a few ideas, choose your favourite and take a closer look at the scenario, the target and the features your future artifact will need to have. Lastly it's time to do some backcasting, i. e., analyze what needs to happen in 20 years, 10 years or 1 year so your artifact becomes a future reality! So give yourself a pat on the back; you haven't realized it yet, but the first starting point was actually you deciding to take this Domestika course. By the way, these tools aren’t just for designing future artifacts, you can use them to help you navigate any uncertainties! Collaborate, think beyond humans, be imaginative, keep learning and always always always challenge your own assumptions. Don´t forget to share your designs, artifacts, drawings and reach out to other colleagues and students. See you in the forum!

Can't wait to see what you have created and shared. In this course, I have walked through the four basic steps that we used at Futurity Studio. From a starting point, we mapped out the future space with a future wheel, and then we extrapolated the map into a timeline in our future cone. With our insights, we built our future world, decide...”
