“Blocking In In this lesson we'll do some blocking in. It's an important stage that we touched on in the "Painting Techniques" lesson, and it's establishing the lights and darks of the figure we're painting. We're going to try and ignore colour more or less in this lesson and use thin washes of paint to delineate the areas of light and dark. This is important because once you start getting into the detail and looking closely at the colour, you can sometimes end up with a painting that has very even tonal values and that doesn't have the volume and depth that it should have.
