“Overview of materials Now that you know more about me, I'll show you the materials you need to start your portrait. First, I'd like to show you this antique punch needle. It wasn't called a punch needle, but a rug puncher. You would take strips of wool scraps and rock it back and forth along the surface of your fabric, exactly like what we'll do now. I'm not recommending this tool but I think it's interesting to know this is really a rug hooking technique that's called embroidery, but this is the origin of the tools that we have here.
