About the final project for: Embroidered Portraits with Punch Needle

Embroidered Portraits with Punch Needle

“You made it to the end! Now we’ve gone over every step of the process of making your very own portrait. After a quick recap of each lesson, it’s time for me to say goodbye, and for you to get punching! Review the influences that I have listed and search for your own to inform your work. Remember, there is nothing new under the sun. As soon as you accept that, you can start working in dialogue with the work that’s already been done, learn from it, and grow. Seeing a different perspective might just open you up to a whole new approach. Now, let's go over the most important points of the project. When you have the reference image, make a model taking into account what I have taught you about color theory and color values.

Then, transfer the model to the canvas and start applying the colors, starting first with the shapes and then embroidering the lines and stitches.
Finally, work out the finishing touches and add texture to your work.
That’s it for me! Thanks so much for trusting me to guide you through this process. It really means a lot to have you here and to be able to interact with your work. While I will do my best to be on top of feedback, please understand that I might be on a job - I’ll answer you as soon as I get a chance to! I strongly encourage you all to interact, share your findings, and provide encouragement to your fellow punchers. While anyone can do this project, it isn’t a very easy one, so I am confident you will lift each other up and form a little community of exchange and support. I hope this course made you feel empowered to tackle this project and I CANNOT WAIT to see what you come up with. Now punch! ”

“Final project We've reached the end of the course, but before we say goodbye, let's review the steps to guide you through your project. The first thing to do is think about what you wanna make. A loose idea of size and colors will be important for choosing your materials. When gathering your materials, you'll need to find a combination of punch needle, thread, and fabric that works and aligns with your vision. Play around with colors, techniques, and stitches. I'll be working wrong side up, but play with that as well. Consider how you might use texture to add to the effect of your portrait....”
