About the final project for: Anthropomorphic Character Creation

Anthropomorphic Character Creation

“Dear students, you’ve made it this far! I hope you enjoyed the course. I am excited to discover your character and I’ll give you feedback as soon as I have time to look at it! I hope you will be patient, and understand that I have characters waiting on me too! I would like to give you some extra tips on how to expand the universe of your character. The first thing would be to explore your character by doing a turnaround, to show what it looks like from a front, side, and back view! I give you some tips on how to do that. Another way of continuing your journey is to create little illustrations that tell the life story of your character. What did your character look like as a child? As a teenager? As a grandparent? If you came up with a little life story for your character, what are the important moments in his life? Can you draw them? And what of the other characters in the universe that you invented? Your character’s arch enemy, or his best friend? You can create a whole lineup, the cast of your character’s story! You can also make your character into a real object! Lately, I’m really into felt, and I’m giving you some resources on how to create a felt puppet of your character! You can also make it into a paper puppet, that will easily be animated! This course served to bring Fellini to life, and I showed you the whole process behind its creation. Now, I would like you to do the same with a character o your creation. Start with the initial drawings, the coloring, and the addition of details and touch-ups. Then, polish the illustration with the aid of Photoshop.

Finally, here are some words of wisdom before I say goodbye. There are so many talented artists doing character design and animation, and I know that for myself, looking at other people’s work is not helpful when I want to create something. Instead, focus inwards, cultivate your style and the imaginary universe! Find your voice! Be weird! To fuel your creativity, look at nature, art history, costumes, people, whatever makes you want to draw and create! You can make folders with images, to browse through when you need ideas. It’s also important to create a network of support around you: find the people who give you earnest feedback, send them your new designs and see what they think! Be open to criticism. In return, be generous with your time and support other artists when you can! Well, that’s it! Thank you so much for joining me on this course. I hope that the character you’ve created is just the beginning of your journey into character design! ”

I wanted to give you little tips on how to expand the universe of your character. the first thing to explore would be what does your character look from the side and from the back?
