“Beauty Lighting: Two Ways In this lesson we'll set up our lights so that we can do a beauty portrait. We'll start with one light and then we'll add in a second one to see how we can enhance the image. For this portrait I'll be using a beauty dish. A beauty dish is a round shape and it uses a parabolic reflector to direct light towards a focal point. The beauty dish is like a soft, hard light, it's gonna be softer than one of your on-camera flashes or even just a strobe without any modifiers, but it's gonna be harder than a light with a soft box or an umbrella.
