About the video: What will we do in the course?
Overview
“The project of this course is an extension of the other course you have in Domestika ( Artisan binding without seams ). If in that first course we saw how to present graphic work in a seamless binding but that requires us to fold the paper on which the work is printed or worked, in this course we are going to focus on two ways of presenting the work without folding the paper on which it is printed or worked. As a fan of photography, first, and watercolor, later, I was presented with the need to be able to present and preserve my work in an original, creative way that was respectful of graphic material. In this course we are going to learn how to join single sheets together (photos, for example), so that we can see the entire photo, without having to fold or pierce them, but only by using a joining material. Once joined together, we will see the possibilities that these unions provide us to reach different finishes and forms of presentation. Search your drawers for sheets that you want to join together. And if you do not dare with photos or work that you fear to spoil, do it with cardboard that you paint, or postcards that you have and do not know what use to give them. ”
In this video lesson Susana Dominguez Martin addresses the topic: What will we do in the course?, which is part of the Domestika online course: Bookbinding of Your Artwork without Folds. Learn how to present your work artisanally to open at 180º without losing any visual information.

“in this course The proposal I bring to you is how to be able to graphic work that we have in the format of a simple sheet, and that I want to join to other leaves, but that it can continue to open completely at 180 degrees without losing information about the sheet because it is a photograph, or because it's a cardboard that I've painted, or because it's an watercolor. The other course I have in Domestika, it proposed how to fold the work on itself, to frame. Aquino. Here it is about not bending the work. It is about having individual elements to unite them together. and we will unite them ...”

Susana Dominguez Martin
A course by Susana Dominguez Martin
As a classically-trained bookbinder, Susana's mission has always been to expand accessibility to this art form by searching for more affordable techniques, in terms of both time and materials, which also lend a contemporary image to the artist's book, beyond that of classic bookbinding. Susana Domínguez's style is characterized by her drive to break new ground while defining her image and seeking solutions to the needs of modern-day bookbinding. She is constantly experimenting with different materials and techniques, learning from fellow artists, and often borrowing from other disciplines.
Her work has received awards in Spain and other EU countries. Since 2006, she has been teaching her craft alongside Guadalupe Roldán at the studio she founded: Códex. Their studio has become an international reference in artistic bookbinding and is a space for exchanging ideas and knowledge where many bookbinders and artists from different nationalities have honed their skills and explored their creative potential.
