“In this class, I will talk about the conception and realization of the final project of the course. You will find examples of essays within street photography that have become publications that I hope will be inspiring for you to create your project. The idea is that you go out into the streets and find a recurring place or theme that interests you and, at the end of this process, edit an essay for online publication.”

“What will we do in the course? In this class, I will comment on what we will do in the final project. You will produce an essay about a specific place or a city. I hope this practice becomes routine in your day to day. Street photography is more than a genre or aesthetic form. It means being attentive and prepared all the time. I use a mirrorless camera that is smaller, I can be with it all the time. Sometimes I use cell phones in public transport and I don't want to take the camera out of my bag. I'm producing all day when I see something interesting visually. A trip to the supermarket can...”

Gustavo Minas
A course by Gustavo Minas
Gustavo Minas was born in 1981 in Cássia, a small city located in the State of Minas Gerais. After receiving a degree in journalism from the State University of Londrina, he went on to study the language and history of photography under Carlos Moreira in São Paulo and has been photographing the urban scenes of the cities he visits since 2009.
He currently works as a freelance journalist and photographer based in Brasília as well as teaching workshops across Brazil and abroad. In 2017, his photo series Rodoviária won the Picture of the Year LATAM award, in the category "The Future of Cities," and in 2019, he published his first book Maximum Shadow Minimal Light with Edition Lammerhuber, which was also exhibited in Hamburg that same year.
