About the final project for: Illustration Techniques and Styles with Procreate

Illustration Techniques and Styles with Procreate

“We have already reached the end of the course. I hope you found it enjoyable and, above all, that you enjoyed and learned new things. I have explained three of the different styles of illustration that I usually use in my personal and professional projects. To find your own style of illustration it is essential to practice constantly; Therefore, knowing different techniques can help you find the one that best suits the way you work. Now, we are going to see the steps that I have followed to elaborate my final project. I have chosen to draw a character with my personal style and place it in its environment. In this case, I have followed the line illustration technique, but both in the final project that I have uploaded and in the corresponding unit of the course you will see an example of each of them. Draw the sketch Using the different brushes that Procreate includes, and playing with their properties, make the sketch of the drawing that you want to make in your project.

Ink your illustration Outline the lines of your sketch using the most suitable brushes for this, as we saw in Unit 4 of the course.
Add the color Color your illustration with the colors you have chosen when planning your project. In the course unit where we covered this technique, you can review how to use a reference layer to make the coloring process as easy as possible.
Lights and shadows Bring your drawing to life by adding layers of lights and shadows taking into account the direction of the light.
Final settings Playing with Procreate's adjustment tools, work on the last details to finish your illustration. Using the settings for color balance, hue and saturation, and levels and noise will make the process easier.
To carry out your project you can look at mine, but I think that you will get more out of the course if you choose your own character. Choose the technique that most appeals to you from the ones we have seen in the course, and you can even customize it to your liking. As you have seen throughout the course, the three methods that we have seen throughout the course have common basic foundations, especially in the treatment of lights and shadows. In any illustration it is essential to know how to interpret the behavior of light on the scene, regardless of the technique we use. If we do this interpretation well, we will have a long way to go to do a job successfully. Finally, I would like to ask you not to stop experimenting, trying and looking for new ways to carry out your projects. For me it is the best way to find our way as illustrators.”

“Final project We're now going to quickly recap everything we've seen on the course. I started by introducing myself and I shared some of the artists who inspire me on a daily basis. Before starting to draw, I gave you some basic guidelines to familiarize you with Procreate, and I showed you some of the gestures that you'll use most often. Then, we analyzed how light falls on objects in our illustration. I showed you how to apply light and shadows and how to apply color. After that, we started on the sketch. Then, I proposed working on the same character and the same scene with three differe...”
