About the video: What will we do in the course?

Overview

“In this Domestika course you will learn how to mend torn or damaged clothing. As a final project, the stitches and solutions learned will be applied to intervene and repair a damaged garment. In this lesson I will show you everything that can be done using what you already have. I will tell you a little about my experience as a clothing consumer and why I think it is our responsibility to extend the life of our garments. I will show you different garments that I have repaired and intervened with embroidery and also some pieces made from scraps of fabric with the intention that you realize that something very nice can be done with very little.”

In this video lesson Ofelia & Antelmo addresses the topic: What will we do in the course?, which is part of the Domestika online course: Embroidery: Clothing Repair. Learn the Visible Mending technique and revive your garments using original embroidery pieces and patches that express your style.

Partial transcription of the video

“What will we do in this course? In this lesson I will share what we'll do during this course before we get to work. In this course, I will teach you how to repair broken, stained or damaged garments using patches and embroideries. We'll address the importance of extending the life of the garments we already have in our closet. And we'll use this as a motivation to transform garments that we thought we'd never use into unique and special pieces. For your project, you'll apply what you've learned to repair a garment in your closet. Join me in the next lesson to get started.”

Textile Art Workshop

Ofelia & Antelmo is a project created by Gabriela Martínez—designer and textile artist—in 2017 that started out as a contemporary textile art proposal presented in two formats that go hand in hand: textile art and wearable art.

Textile art is the starting point of Gabriela's process, in which she explores all her ideas for colors, textures, stitches, and effects, then seeks to bring them to life in handmade garments with wear-resistant finishes and stitches. Her main motivation is that quality prevails over quantity, and so she creates pieces that can be inherited as a form of protest at the speed at which the world moves today.
