Embroidery: Clothing Repair
“Ready! We have reached the end of this course, I want to thank you for the trust and the time invested here. Thank you for deciding to repair with me our relationship with fashion and with the way the media programs us to consume. First we talked about the importance of extending the life of our garments and the power that we have as consumers and that is at our fingertips. Afterwards, we reviewed the essential materials to be able to amend a garment and gave you directions on places or ways to get reused material. We worked together the sketching process where I explained how I like to form the order of the patterns in the textures that I board and prepare the garment that we would understand for the final project. Next we enter the stitch training process, where I showed you how through simple stitches very striking finishes can be achieved. You learned how to make flat, embossed stitches and how to make a fabric with the embroidery and then apply it to the final project. Finally we select together the stitches and patches that would make up our intervention so that we can give a second chance to a garment. Now that you know more about my process when it comes to mending garments, you will be able to put everything you have learned into practice and you can give a garment a second chance. It doesn't matter if you now only have one or two to fix or if the area to repair is small. This course will give you the necessary tools to correct any type of damage in the future and it will also serve to reinterpret a garment and capture a part of yourself in it. It does not necessarily have to be the excuse of having some torn garment to capture something of you in it. I also invite you to intervene with embroidery on a garment that you love, one that you want to always keep, to make it even more special! With the stitches and effects learned you can try different materials and supports. For my part I say goodbye. I hope we meet again! Do not forget to share your entire process in the forum. If you suddenly see that it took me a while to answer, I ask for your patience. The computer requires a lot of energy from me and I have to do it little by little, but don't worry, I promise I'll get to you! Let's make community and nurture each other! In addition to my feedback , if you have any constructive comments to give on your colleagues' projects, I am sure they will appreciate it and enrich your opinions. ”

“Final project Hello, before finishing we will go over everything we did in the course. I started by showing you some books and documentaries that marked my work philosophy and how I apply this to my work. Then I showed you my basic embroidery materials and we prepared the garment. Then I shared about my visual language and how to sketch organic textures full of loose and random lines. Later, we worked on stitch sampling, using several scraps that we later used as patches, in which we created different effects using flat and raised stitches, and creating fabric by embroidering. Having done a...”

Ofelia & Antelmo
A course by Ofelia & Antelmo
Ofelia & Antelmo is a project created by Gabriela Martínez—Textile Designer and Artist—which began in 2017 as a contemporary textile art project working across two formats: textile art and wearable art.
Textile art is where Gabriela explores her ideas using color, texture, stitches, and embroidery effects to create artisanal pieces with unique finishing touches that are resistant to wear and tear. Her aim is to focus on the quality of each piece, instead of producing high quantities. There is an intention of longevity in her work as a form of protest against the disposable, fast-paced world we live in today.
