Free Examples of Successful User-Generated Content

Analyze three interesting examples of UGC for social media and what we can learn from them

In today’s digital world, understanding how to create online engagement is essential—after all, social media content can define the success of a company.

Marketing Executive David Cuen (@davidcuen) has learned how to get into the minds of audiences and apply his knowledge of marketing and strategy to connect people with brands. He’s worked with companies like BBC, Instagram, and Booking.com on social media engagement, brand marketing and communications, and community building strategy—of which User-Generated Content (UGC) plays a key part.

In this free download, David shares his analysis of three examples of UGC content from well-known brands, looking at how they operate and what lessons we can take from them.

David Cuen is an expert on social media engagement, brand marketing and communications, and community building strategy.

But first, let’s look at what exactly UGC is and how it fits into a brand's social media strategy.

What is user-generated content (UGC)?

Simply put, UGC is content that is created with your audience, that's to say: content created and shared by your users. It’s an important part of building your own content communities, helping to build brand loyalty and trust.

David explains, UGC isn’t actually a new concept: “it comes from the 19th Century; the Oxford English Dictionary was created by tapping into the power of the crowd.” The dictionary’s authors reached out to people who spoke English all over the world—from professors to artists to specialists in certain fields—and asked them to define words on which they were the authorities.

Well-known brands increasingly use crowd-sourced content as part of their social media strategy.

Over the years the concept has evolved. Nowadays, we see UGC used in news for example, from crowd-sourced pictures and videos for big stories to brands increasingly using crowd-sourced content on a daily basis as part of their social media strategy.

So what does impactful or interesting UGC look like—and why?
