10 Illustration Projects Celebrating 10 Years of Game of Thrones

Discover these incredible projects from the Domestika community that honor the HBO series
On April 17, 2021, Game of Thrones celebrates 10 years of its debut on HBO. One of the most successful fantastic sagas in the history of TV, the series proved that plots with characters and complex conflicts can attract the attention of millions of people. Thus, it influenced several creative areas, from audiovisual to literature.
Characters like Daenerys Targaryen, Jon Snow, Arya Stark and Tyrion Lannister have become icons of pop culture and have inspired the work of countless artists, illustrators and designers to this day. To celebrate the 10 years of the series, we selected 10 projects created by the Domestika community that pay homage to the universe created by George R. R. Martin.

Timelapse: The Hound, by Alex Foster (@alexfosterillustration)
Alex is an English illustrator who loves to create maps, as well as children's illustrations. He also works with projects for other industries, such as creating a clothing line under the Hong Kong Lane Crawford brand, artwork for novels, books for young adults and children, and maps for the Literary Heritage Roald Dahl. In this timelapse, Alex illustrates his version of the character Sandor Clegane, known as The Hound.

Colección "Game of Thrones", by Maria Picassó i Piquer (@mariapicasso)
Project created by illustrator and caricaturist Maria Picassó i Piquer, inspired by Game of Thrones, based on the universe of Song of Ice and Fire, by G. R. R. Martin. The illustrations were made based on the looks of the characters from the first four seasons of the series.

Owner of a colorful and minimalist line, Rebeca Cuesta explores the main characteristics of the characters of Game of Thrones to translate them into her art. The result is cozy, full of friendliness and personality.

Ricardo studied advertising graphic design and devoted most of his life to the design and layout of magazines. In recent years, vector illustration has been his passion and is part of most of his projects. In this project, the artist gives his characters a unique touch through a vector illustration with a minimalist touch.

Game of thrones, Fan art, by Abraham García (@abraham_garcia)
Illustrator and art director Abraham Garcia, who has worked for brands like Harley Davidson, Jack Daniel’s or Volkswagen, specializes in digital engraving and creates his illustrations using the technique of blending (or shading using parallel lines) with Illustrator and Photoshop. In this art, the illustrator explores contrasts of colors, plots and lines to bring his favorite characters to life.

The work of this digital artist is the perfect blend of realism with techniques that resemble traditional paintings. In addition, colors and lights are mixed with surreal elements that give a special touch to each art. Arya Stark gains dreamlike nuances that have marked the character's trajectory over eight seasons.

Mini retratos acuarela - Game of Thrones, by Jacob C (@blaufosc)
Jacob is an illustrator, painter and character designer and in this project he recreated the characters of Game of Thrones in small portraits made with watercolor and 10x10cm frames. The portraits resemble old paintings, made with delicacy and impressive details.

Game Of Thrones, by Guillem Bosch (@guillembosch)
In this project, illustrator Guillem Bosch created an alternative poster to honor Game Of Thrones, highlighting a secondary character, but just as important as those of the main families of the series. The battle between Jon Snow and Ramsey Bolton is represented with tremendous detail and color in an illustration made in pencil.

Game of Thrones landscapes - Illustrated icon set, by Lucía Gómez Alcaide (@luciatypes)
Lucía is an illustrator, designer and lettering artist. In this project, she recreated the iconic sets of Game of Thrones and their cities in a set of icons that overflow with nostalgia. Fans of the series will be able to recognize every detail of the places that have been part of great stories over the course of 10 years.

Each artist has unique looks and traits, capable of translating the world around them. Illustrator and graphic designer Jorge Barroso owns an unforgettable art and recreated in this project great characters from Game Of Thrones. In his creative process, he started sketches by hand, finishing and coloring with details and expressions that convey the essence of the characters.
