Silvia Ferpal (@silviaferpal2) is a Madrid based designer and visual artist with a successful design career. She has worked for agencies and consultancies like Ogilvy&Mather and Designit. And also won Spain’s National Young Designer Award. She even worked with the City Council on designing Madrid’s official font which she named Ferpal Sans.
In this Domestika Diary, Silvia reveals the corners, streets and ancient places that provide daily inspiration in her beloved Madrid. She also invites us into the intimacy of her new studio, which is where she comes up with beautiful creations, with the help of her dog Pepa. Silvia’s mornings just aren’t productive unless she starts with a walk through the city that witnessed her birth, and that she loves with all her heart: Madrid. Strolling around its streets and visiting old businesses is a source of daily inspiration. It allows her to gather ideas and come up with the creative designs that are a constant part of her visual work.
Her happy wanderings were also the source of inspiration behind one of her most iconic designs: a font based on Madrid’s characteristic ceramic signs.

Her font was first used for the San Isidro festivities before becoming Madrid’s official font, under the more traditional name: Chulapa.

Silvia is now busy with her new and exciting project: the creation of a design studio with photographer Laura San Segundo. This new space promises to boost Silvia’s creativity, thanks to the unconditional support of her greatest source of inspiration: her dog Pepa. Pepa awakens all her senses and leads her to explore new ways around the city.

Many artists find inspiration in the place where they live, and Madrid certainly shapes Silvia’s work. It’s home to traditional stores and antiques markets like El Rastro, where she can examine objects, tools and countless bric-a-brac that she can use in her work.
