What Is the Best Place to Sell Your Clothes Online?

What is the best platform to sell your streetwear project? Smithe presents his favorite options
You’ve just created a fantastic collection of t-shirts with your designs and illustrations, and now you need your audience to see it and buy it, correct? Which online shop should you choose to advertise your products if you don’t have a way to set up your website?
Smithe (@smithe)–a Mexican urban artist, illustrator, and designer–has been working on his style, perfecting his images’ narrative, and working as a creative for fashion brand, Tony Delfino. Here he shows us the difference between the two leading e-commerce platforms, Big Cartel and Shopify.

Big Cartel
Founded in 2005, this 100% independent platform has helped artists sell a total of 2,500 million dollars.
Smithe champions the site’s simplicity: it allows you to create your shop in a few clicks, including defining the garments’ sizes and colors.
One of the best aspects of Big Cartel is the variety of designs to choose from to personalize your online selling space. After all, if you want your highly creative products to shine, the shop aesthetics must reflect this. If you get tired of the style, you can opt to give the shop a new look by quickly changing the theme.
If you plan to sell only a few items, you can open a free account with Big Cartel. The site enables customers to pay by credit card and through PayPal.

Shopify
This huge e-commerce platform is home to more than one million companies. Unlike Big Cartel, it does not offer a free account, but you can use a free trial. The subscription fee is higher; therefore, it is recommended to those who already have a higher sales turnover.
However, Shopify’s advantage is that it gives you more freedom to change your online shop’s so that every detail is how you want it. With the help of a programmer (or yourself if you have the skills), you can develop an entirely personalized virtual space.
This is also true for choosing delivery options (national and international dispatching, etc.). In other words, perhaps Shopify is more suitable for those who already have a more established brand and want to give their shop a more professional appearance.

So, have you decided which option is best for you? Do you want to refine your skills to create a clothes collection? Sign up for the course, Creation of a Streetwear Brand, to learn to develop, produce, and market your first streetwear line.
