Sora: the new AI video tool

Just like the last AI tool... How many times can you revolutionize the AI world before it gets old?

OpenAI leaves some of us awestruck once again with their new realistic video generating tool. But if it left me speechless I couldn't really write this article, could I? What is it going to be used for anyways? The controversial AI Taylor Swift images now can be turned into a feature film? I'm not her biggest fan myself so I won't be checking it out...!

What is Sora?

I'll try to explain it just like if my grandparents asked me about it... Okey, buckle up, pops!

The creators of ChatGPT and DALL-E (not to be confused with WALL·E, a different robot), recently announced a new video generating AI software, that creates videos from text prompts... Who is AI? It's WALL·E's girlfriend in the movie... Remember?

If you've generated AI images before, OpenAI promises Sora will work the same way... For now, only developers can use it, though... Guys, I'm not going to make the Taylor Swift video, I promise! I'm not going to slander politicians either or extort them with my video creations! Couldn't you take my word for it at face value, OpenAI? I'm taking yours...!

How does it work?

Sora is capable of understanding what you ask for using natural language, since it has been trained to understand the way we usually speak and how we express ourselves when requesting or asking something. I hope it's trained to understand my passive-aggressive requests, too! That's how I usually express myself...

Sora will be able to generate videos that show what you've asked for in motion, which is a huge step forward from simply creating images. Is it junky and weird still? If you pay close attention it is yes! It will definitely compete against stock footage videos that play on the background of Youtube videos... And perhaps special effects teams will be reduced at Marvel studios... Meaning: it will, at most, replace worthless junk, anyways... I mean, no! I love Marvel Youtube essays, I watch them all the time...!

Hopefully the Marvel fanatics have been convinced of my adherence to the Marvel law and I can continue with the article: Sora has been trained by a huge library of videos. The AI tool will know what you mean when you talk to it about types of people, clothing, accessories or visual effects. Types of people like politicians, Hollywood Stars and popular singers? Interesting...!

What Can You Do With Sora?

You can go out on a date with it...! Not yet, but soon, perhaps... I'm sure the Marvel fanatics would appreciate a tool like that...

Sora is capable of generating complex scenes featuring multiple characters at once. You can also detail the environment, and Sora will know how to interpret what you say and what things are like in the physical world... more or less...!

Look for example, at the video that we added below. In it, you will be shown how different text prompts are interpreted by Sora.

As you can see, it is able to accurately generate a person for example and reflect how you have asked them to be dressed... They are dressed for now...!

Sure, you can live under a rock if you'd like (and I don't blame you), but we should all know by now what is going to be one of the main uses for this video generating tool... It probably will be restricted when it's finally out, sure... But that didn't stop some people from creating the Taylor Swift pictures... Although, I guess the special FX team at Marvel could've done something as realistic, already! We've got to give them the credit they deserve.

There is my take on the new Sora AI. See it for yourselves and tell me what you think! The only problem is that we don't have a comment section here on Domestika's blog so you'll have to spout your nonsense to your partner, who is probably not as invested as you in this whole ordeal and will probably be bored by it.
