7 Projects to Commemorate the 8th Anniversary of David Bowie's Death
We pay tribute to the legendary British singer with a selection of projects in which he is the protagonist
.David Bowie left us 8 years ago, but his legacy is still present in many aspects of our lives. For example, Domestika students and teachers use his image on many occasions to carry out their projects.
To commemorate the eighth anniversary of his death, we have compiled 7 projects that have Bowie as a protagonist. Enjoy them and we hope they will serve as inspiration for your creations.
The famous lightning bolt that accompanied David Bowie for much of his career has its origin in a medical book, which showed a lightning bolt passing through the head of a patient suffering from mental illness. Thus, Bowie made his own version to illustrate the cover of the album Aladdin Sane (1973) and it became an image that continues to inspire many artists. Here is a version by Tono Mollà (@toneti), designer and illustrator from Alicante.
If you search for the best David Bowie songs, Starman always comes up in them. Creative Sara Gummy (@saragummy) mixes Bowie's famous song with the lightning bolt image and, all in a fun kawaii style. The combination of everything shows a precious and very different image of the British singer.
When we say that the lightning has inspired a lot of people, we mean a lot of people. Here, is one more example of the power of this image among Domestika students. Cecilia Serrat (@ceciliaserrat), draftswoman by profession, offers us different images of Bowie with his lightning bolt, from closer, from further away, but always using a perfect and very captivating technique.
Here we come to the cutest project of all. Although it competes very closely with the kawaii Bowie, this plush toy made by Elena Sánchez Santos (@lelelerele), softens our hearts and makes us want to hug him. Elena uses fabric to create characters, a technique she teaches as a teacher in the Domestika course Fabric dolls: design, sewing and content creation. Don't you think it's cute?
Oscar Giménez (@oscargimenez), teacher of the Domestika course Illustration for Music Lovers, created an image of Bowie in space for an article published by Yorokobu magazine on the occasion of the singer's death. Here, the artist is seen as the center of a solar system, in the middle of the universe, a place to which Bowie always resorts and from which the artist imagines him observing us since his death.
Why focus on a single image of Bowie? The singer wore extravagant looks that captivated his fans and that Jan Serra (@jan_serra) wanted to capture here with graphite pencil, colored paints and watercolors. In this project, with five different portraits, Jan shows us a thousand faces that Bowie could present, from the seductive to the psychedelic.
We leave the world of 2D illustration and drawings to show this work that the student Alicia Puyol (@alipuyol) did as a project for the course Realistic Modeling with ZBrush of Domestika. Surely more than one person would like to have this bust of Bowie on the shelf in their living room.
