Karen Slater

I was born in Melbourne, Victoria and moved to Sydney, New South Wales when I was 13, I have been making art since I was a teenager. My passion began in art classes at school and has steadily grown over the years. I am a part time artist and photographer and am currently a Clinical Specialist/Registered Nurse travelling all over Australia to assist Aged Care Providers improve outcomes for residents.
I mainly works with acrylics on canvas, as well as mixed media and mandala work. I am based in Failford, New South Wales. I am mainly self-taught and over the last few years have improved my skills at The Other Side Artist Retreat, Ghinni Ghinni, with well-known local artists Wendie Patch, Mrs. Shepherd, and Sharon Tudor-Smith.
Being an animal and nature lover, the subject matter I mostly focus on is animals, birds, butterflies and dragonflies. I enjoy experimenting with mixed media, miniature art and mandalas and would like to expand further in these genres. Karen runs Mandala Workshops through the Mid Coast and Mid North Coast.
