Melissa Malm

My creative endeavors started with mud pies, crayons and tempera paints. My earliest masterpiece 'Purple People Eater' from kindergarten hung proudly in our entryway, kudos to my mom for such encouragement.
The creative process is what I'm addicted to, experimenting with materials and enjoying unfettered expression.
I started a collage bird series at the beginning of Covid lock down mostly because I was cleaning my studio and found so many lovely papers to work with, my goal is 100 birds in any media.
I've a long history with and adore watercolor. My project then is to continue my series using it. I'm attracted to the yin yang quality of Sarah's watercolor work, controlled spontaneity?
I worked professionally as an etched glass artist (sand blasting) but am now retired. I also spent 12 years teaching integrated arts projects in our school district for a local nonprofit pARTners. I've sinced joined the board and am currently president. Another joy is to be an advocate for art education in our schools.
