Elena Chantzis

I am a Greek-Italian architect, designer and visual artist based in Athens.
I am interested in observing and portraying the semiotics of cultural objects and specifically of domestic objects and subjects, along with theirs and nature's recurrent patterns.
I am attracted to and I embrace error and unintentional functional design as inspiration guides for my creative process.
My work is characterized by contrasting elements. It is naive and critical, romantic and cynical, expressionist-abstract and conceptual, physical and digital, optimist and pessimist, superficial and deep, serious and ironic, trendy and not. With this disguise I try to convey some hidden messages with-ought clearly using the work only as a critical tool. Moreover, fusing the opposites, is for me a statement towards collectivity and universality by keeping, in the same moment, the individual identities.
I use different mediums as most of my work is site specific and project based. I like to experiment with every medium by pushing it's boundaries and by mixing the three disciplines within which I move.
